Game Threat: Momentum? Blue Jays (4-12) @ Angels (7-11)

Did you stay up and watch last night’s marathon? The Blue Jays sure as hell made it worth your while if you did. After blowing a lead in the eighth inning, Jose Bautista came up clutch with his first home run of the season in the top of the 13th, then Joe Biagini bailed out Aaron Loup in the bottom half to help the team to their fourth win of the season. Momentum. Let’s hope they can build on it.

News and Scuttlebutt

A couple pieces of news:

First, Ty Kelly, who spent about 45 minutes with the team, was dealt to the Phillies in exchange for cash. He was DFA’s yesterday to make room on the 40-man roster.

Second, and more importantly, Troy Tulowitzki swiped third base last night on a wild pitch by Cam Bedrosian, but immediately pulled himself from the game. Today, the Jays placed Tulo on the 10-day DL, adding another challenge to their already injury-riddled roster.

Danny Bares was sent to Triple-A Buffalo in exchange for Leonel Campos, simply because Barnes has options and pitched two innings last night, and the Jays need a fresh arm. But we don’t know yet who’ll be up in Tulo’s spot. The only other infielder on the 40-man roster not currently on the team is Richard Urena. Logic would suggest the Jays would call up Gregorio Petit, but they’d have to make room for him on the 40-man to do so.

We wait.

And now, the lineups..

Blue Jays

Casey Lawrence: 2.0 IP, 13.50 ERA, 3 ER, 3 H, 5 BB, 0 HR, 2 SO

Tyler Skaggs: 17 1/3 IP, 5.19 ERA, 10 ER, 17 H, 7 BB, 3 HR, 19 SO

Casey Lawrence will make his first career big league start tonight. Opposing him will be Tyler Skaggs, the once highly-touted prospect who’s missed significant time due to going through Tommy John surgery. I’m not expecting much from that lineup, or Lawrence, to be honest. I’m mainly just hoping to get through the game injury free.

  • Teddy Ballgame

At this point I’m wondering if the rest of the American League have been doing a steady trade in Blue Jay voodoo dolls.

But hey, at least Smoak is playin’ well, amirite?

Mule they are not really that bad of a team and one of these days they will win a game. Great line Mule. Reminds me of a number of years ago and the Jays were at best a 500 team but were struggling in the late spring when they went to Texas. I went to Vegas and decided to ask the local casino bookie what would I get if I gave him a Benjamin for the Jays to win. He said your Benjamin plus two more Benjamins as the Jays were horrible against the powerful Texas team. Well the Jays won that game and went on a 7 or 8 winning streak and I kept betting on them and it paid for the trip. When I got home and the Jays went home sadly they went back to losing. I think we will have to keep a solid sense of humour as the baseball Gods are definitely not being kind to us this year. Heh unfortunately shit happens.
