Are You Fucking Shitting Me? Francisco Liriano To the DL

Generally I’ve tried to avoid swearing in headlines since I’ve made my home here at Blue Jays Nation. I don’t think anybody has told me not to do it, I just sorta figured it’s for the best. But then there are times… then there are times…

I mean.

At 4:05 PM ET the Jays officially announced that “shoulder inflammation” is the reason (PROBABLY DUE TO RUSSELL MARTIN NOT BEING BEHIND THE PLATE MEUHHHHHH). Fun!

Shi Davidi’s piece at Sportsnet on this new bout of bullshit notes a near two mph dip in Liriano’s velocity — and that’s presumably using data that is showing pitchers as throwing a bit harder this season, based on the way that it’s measured. Which is to say: under last year’s system, it’s not inconceivable that the drop might have been even larger than that.

So… yeah.

Leonel Campos is back up with the Jays, and that the club is down a depth arm today, too, as they tried to sneak Casey Lawrence through waivers and he ended up getting claimed by their opponents tonight (and for the next four games), the Seattle Mariners.

Aaron Sanchez is due to start on Sunday, so the Jays were going to have to drop a starter from the rotation regardless, but not like this. Not like this.

I hope this means I can finally get my Blue Jays jersey that says “Fister” on the back. I mean, I suppose I could have gotten one at any point, but it just wouldn’t have felt right without him actually being here.

I’ve had mine since Doug entered the league. I’ve been saving it in a drawer beside my Furbush Jays jersey though. Hopefully it will be seeing the light of day shortly!

Ok. For fuck sake…. at this point I feel I should point out that I am left handed, can throw three different pitches for strikes and am younger thank Jose Bautista.
The fact that my fastball only tops out at like 55 shouldn’t be an issue because that speed was measured under the OLD system.

On the plus side, if Sanchez is in fact back for good on Sunday, Biagini and Bolsinger showed something in their starts. What about Morales? Playing today?

I think the piece not being discussed in all of this is that most teams going through a rash of injuries like that will at least have a couple long term that can be pushed to 60 day spots to open up a position on the 40 man. None of the Jays injuries are serious enough for that, though, so they’re forced to risk losing players to waivers because of it. Except for Sparkman, who I guess is on the 60 day.

Hey I do not like to see anyone hit the DL, but Liriano was hot garabage his last 2 to 3 starts. If the GINI can catch fire and hold his own for 5 plus and with Sanchz back and maybe another good spot start from Bolsinger we will be fine. As noted the next nine games are winnable to a large degree. I more worried about Travis and Jose not hitting. And with Tulo and JD back in the coming week to weeks it will make it better. This is a team effort to float the boat and the Jays have been delivering some GREAT games to watch.

It’s the world we live in. The internet has made most people a bunch of reactionary suckholes. I try very hard to avoid it, but sometimes (re: when tired and/or drunk) I can’t help but call people out. I do at least attempt to only do it when they’re actually being stupid, though. No just because I disagree.

Aren’t you the person who wants the Jays to lose more games so they can free themselves up to dump Donaldson? That seems like a rather negative opinion to me.

Then I’m not sure why you’re talking about fan negativity in the context of an article about another player moving to the DL. It would seem the injury discussion would be consistent with your “short-term negativity.” For that matter, I’m not sure there’s much negativity at all that isn’t about this season in particular.
