Game Threat: Competitive Baseball In June! Yankees (30-20) @ Blue Jays (26-27)

Tonight we begin the biggest series of the season (so far)! It’s only June, but this four-game series against the division leading Yankees will go a long way in showing whether or not the Jays are a legit contender in the division.

The big news today was that the Jays designated Mike Bolsinger for assignment. I wrote about it here.

And now, the lineups…

Blue Jays

Marco Estrada: 68 2/3 IP, 3.15 ERA, 7.7 H9, 1.2 HR9, 2.2 BB9, 10.2 SO9

Yankees

CC Sabathia: 57 IP, 4.42 ERA, 9 H9, 1.3 HR9, 3.6 BB9, 7.3 SO9

Russell Martin and Devon Travis will both get a night off, as John Gibbons said they’re a little bit banged up, while Troy Tulowitzki, Kevin Pillar, and Josh Donaldson will return to the lineup. It’s odd that Gibby is choosing to give Russ and Devo a day off at the same time, but doing so in a game against Sabathia, who might be New York’s worst starter this weekend, makes some sense.
