Here’s some good news on the Blue Jays’ injury front.
Teoscar Hernandez ran the bases on Tuesday and is scheduled to face Matt Shoemaker in a live bullpen session on Wednesday. According to Charlie Montoyo, if all goes well, Hernandez could be ready to return to the lineup “any day after tomorrow.”
This would be a huge boost for the Blue Jays’ lineup as the team grinds through the final stretch of the 2020 season and into the playoffs. Hernandez suffered an oblique injury when the team was in Boston a couple of weeks ago and the immediate report suggested that it was expected he would miss significant time.
Beyond making the team better for the final few games of the season and the implications they have on seeding, getting Teoscar back and rolling before the playoffs start would certainly be beneficial. The more time he has to reacclimatize himself, the better.
In other news… Shoemaker is, of course, throwing on Wednesday, while Nate Pearson is tossing a live bullpen of his own. There isn’t a timetable on either of them to return, but the Blue Jays are optimistic that both can make it back before the playoffs start, though it’s most likely that they won’t be stretched back out into starters by that time. Also, Jordan Romano is throwing from 90 feet, but, again, there isn’t a timetable for his return.
