The Toronto Blue Jays have officially released the final selections for the 2025 Canadian Futures Showcase, the organization’s annual amateur scouting event.

Canada’s top amateur baseball showcase

Widely regarded as the premier amateur baseball showcase in Canada, the Canadian Futures Showcase brings together more than 100 of the country’s top high school players. For one week, these prospects will compete on the Rogers Centre field in front of professional scouts and college recruiters.
The event kicks off with Scout Day, a comprehensive evaluation of individual skills and athleticism. Metrics collected include:
  • Exit velocity
  • Bat speed
  • 60-yard dash time
  • Positional velocity
  • Catcher’s pop time
  • Vertical jump
  • Wingspan
  • Additional movement and performance data
This data, measured and documented by the Blue Jays Baseball Operations department, provides MLB organizations and colleges with a detailed analytical profile of each player. Following scout day, the players will then be playing against each other across six different teams for a total of four games.

Exposure to MLB scouts and colleges

Every year, almost all 30 Major League Baseball clubs are represented at the showcase, along with high-calibre NCAA Division I programs from the United States. These scouts and coaches alike all take in the event and watch the players compete against one another.
The event concludes with a home run derby and a prospects game, taking some of the top players from the tournament and pitting them against each other with celebrity coaches.

Alumni Making an Impact

The Canadian Futures Showcase has a strong track record of producing MLB Draft picks and professional players. Notable alumni include:
  • Owen Caissie – Chicago Cubs outfielder who made his MLB debut at Rogers Centre, the same field where he once played in the showcase.
  • Jonah Tong – New York Mets’ top pitching prospect.
  • Josh Naylor, Noah Naylor, and Bo Naylor – All three brothers participated in the event.
  • Michael Soroka – Right-handed pitcher, now in the majors.
  • Denzel Clarke – Highly regarded outfield prospect.
Each year, the list of showcase alumni advancing to professional baseball continues to grow.

2025 MLB draft connections

This season’s MLB Draft and free agent signings saw several former participants continue their careers in pro ball. Notable names include:
  • Will Hynes
  • Micah Bucknam
  • Tim Piasentin
  • Antoine Jean
  • Ty Doucette
  • Tyson Moran
  • Tyrelle Chadwick
  • Shane Brinham
  • Jonny McGill
