Baseball America ranked Austin Martin 16th in their most recent Top 100 prospects list

3 years agoBaseball America put out a post-draft update to their top-100 prospects list on Wednesday and it seems they’ve really bought into the Austin Martin hype.
Nate Pearson is unsurprisingly Toronto’s top prospect. He comes in seventh on the list, which is exactly where he was heading into the 2020 season a few months ago.
And then there’s Martin, the Blue Jays’ first pick from the 2020 draft, who many suggest should have gone higher than fifth-overall. Baseball America has Martin ranked as their 16th-best prospect in all of baseball, which is some damn lofty praise for somebody who hasn’t yet played a game at the professional level yet.
The two other Blue Jays’ prospects on the list are Jordan Groshans and Simeon Woods Richardson.
Groshans actually slipped a bit from 31st overall on their last list, which would make sense as he was jumped by two players from this summer’s draft, one of which was Martin. Still, Baseball America is incredibly high on Groshans, who’s kind of all over the grid (Fangraphs has him at 80, MLB Pipeline has him at 75, and Baseball Prospectus has him at 43).
And then there’s Wood Richardson, the top prospect that Toronto got back in last summer’s Marcus Stroman trade. We’ll likely see Woods Richardson soar up the charts over the next couple of years as he takes over Pearson’s place as the Blue Jays’ top pitching prospect.
