Cup holders are coming to Rogers Centre.
According to the Blue Jays Twitter account, the team is adding cup holders to the 100 section… about time.
This is the second year of renovations, with the first year featuring a new look outfield which includes raised bullpens in which Blue Jays fans can heckle opposing relievers. They also added several social areas, also known as the “Outfield District”, which has the Corona Rooftop Patio, Park Social, and others.
It’s now phase two of the renovations, which include entirely new seats in the 100 level that actually face the field. On top of that, the renovations will include three premium clubs and seating sections. One is the “Batting Tunnel Club” which is just a fancy bar with a view of the Jays batting cage and the home dugout.
The other two are “The Home Plate Club”, seemingly a restaurant, as well as “The Lounge”, another restaurant that reads like a luxury lounge. I guess the name makes sense!
It doesn’t come without a cost, of course, as it’s estimated that the cost of the Rogers Centre renovations are $300 million. That of course, could be a reason why the Blue Jays have been so tentative about offering big time deals this free agency. Well, that and the class itself isn’t too great, aside from the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes in early December.
Like the 2023 season, the Blue Jays will begin the 2024 on a lengthy road trip, heading to Tampa Bay for a four-game series starting on March 28, before facing off against the Houston Astros to start April, and heading to New York to take on the Yankees, both of which will be three-game series.
Finally, the Jays will return home to host the Seattle Mariners on April 8, unveiling the new and improved Rogers Centre and hopefully turning it from a stadium to a ballpark.
Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s no Phase Three of the Rogers Centre renovations, but if there were, I’d hope that they’d make the 500 level less step. Those stairs are TREACHEROUS.
