This day just keeps getting crazier. The Blue Jays have already traded for former platinum gold glove winner Matt Chapman, but according to Ken Rosenthal, they are now looking to trade for Jose Ramirez.
Firstly, this article will focus mainly on Ramirez’s defense. If you would like to learn more about his offense, you can read here.

Ramirez to second base?:

You didn’t read that incorrectly, the Jays want him to play… second base. The 29-year-old has played 1106 innings at second and registered a DRS of 4 in that time frame. In his 142 innings played in 2018 (the last time he played 2B), he registered a DRS of -4.  His Ultimate Zone Rating at second base is alright as well, as he sits at 3.3 for his career, including a range of 1.5.
Ramirez has also spent time in left field dating back to 2015 and 2016, where he played 389.1 innings. The Blue Jays clearly like him for his versatility, both with the bat and the potential to move him around the field.
In fact, if the Blue Jays pull this off, they would be moving the Gold Glove runner up to second base. The balls of this franchise are incredible.
Carlos Baerga is also reporting that the Blue Jays are looking to trade for Jose Ramirez. He was one of the first to break the Chapman trade, so yeah. It’s likely the Jays are looking at him.

What would the package look like:

You may or may not know this, but I’m personally against using this platform to speak about hypothetical trades, especially dealing with prospects. Therefore, I won’t give you names in a hypothetical deal. However, I think it’s safe to assume that the Guardians are looking for MLB players as well as some of the Blue Jays’ top prospects. You can read an article about the hypothetical trade here.
Usually, I’d be against this due to the lack of sustainability, but this is Jose Ramirez we’re talking about. This is a player you empty the farm for, just because of how good he is.
Manoah and Moreno to the Guardians?:

According to Buck Martinez (so take with a grain of salt), the Guardians are asking for Alek Manoah and Gabriel Moreno (top prospect). I don’t see these two players being involved in the trade, as Moreno is just about ready to play in the MLB and Manoah is about to be a damn ace.
If this is the asking price for Ramirez, it may be better to revisit this idea around the trade deadline if the Guardians fall out of contention. If not, perhaps in the next off season this trade will get done.
Either way, the prospect of Jose Ramirez on this team excites the hell out of me, so stay tuned as we’ll cover any dealings the Blue Jays make today.
As always, you can follow me on Twitter @Brennan_L_D. I really hope the Jays get J-Ram. So do my followers, because J-Ram is who I talk about 24/7.
