If you want a potential high-leverage reliever, look no further than today’s prospect.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual pre-season list, in which I’ll take a look at the top 50 prospects in the organization. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publications’ scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at T.J. Brock.

Getting to know T.J. Brock…

Position: Relief Pitcher
Throws: Right
Born: August 10, 1999
Acquired: 6th-round, 2022 draft (Blue Jays)
2023 Team: Double-A New Hampshire
Previous Ranking: 50
The flame throwing right-handed pitcher was one of the first from the 2022 draft class for the Blue Jays to make it to High-A. There, he had a 5.56 ERA and a 3.13 FIP in 11.1 innings pitched, helping the Canadians make it to the Championship Series of the Northwest League.
Brock started his season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians and pitched fantastic. In 20.1 innings with the only Canadian minor league team, the then 23-year-old had a 1.77 ERA and a 2.92 FIP, along with a 39.2 K% and an 11.4 BB%.
Unfortunately, the counting stats weren’t great upon his promotion to Double-A New Hampshire, where Brock had a 6.68 ERA and a 4.30 FIP in 32.1 innings pitched. Interestingly, his BB% dropped from 11.4% to 9.1%, while his K% still remained at an incredibly high 36.4%.
While the command and control has been okay at best throughout his career, Brock’s stuff is phenomenal. In Fangraphs’ 2024 rankings, they graded the fastball that sits in the high-90s as a 60. That’s not even his best pitch according to the publication, as his slider is graded at 70… which checks out because it’s nasty. Fangraphs also ranked Brock as their sixth-best Blue Jays prospect for the 2024 season.
If he can control his pitches better, Brock has the title of high-leverage reliever written all over him. Either way, what a great draft pick he was for the Jays.
In the next article, we’ll look at an upper-minor outfielder who had a career-best season.
