Blue Jays officially introduce Charlie Montoyo

So I’ve been away for the past couple of weeks in Playa del Carmen doing the whole try not to get burnt by the blazing sun thing by pouring a shit ton of sunscreen all over me, which is something Rosie DiManno might need after Charlie Montoyo burnt her after she asked him this ‘hardball’ question:
Honestly, whatever…this type of shit makes me miss Playa del Carmen even more than I already do. But, besides the Rosie question that had Twitter do its reactionary whatever, the press conference was totally typical and filled with a lot of standard but genuine answers:
- “You have no idea how thankful I am for this opportunity.”
- “I’m going to do my best, guys, to make you proud.”
- “We’re going to play to win.”
- “I’m going to adjust to whatever team we decide to have at the end of spring training, and that’s how I’m going to manage.”
- “I love Canada.”
…And I miss ol’ Gibbers and all his Gibberisms already, BUT I’m down for the ol’ Monty years ahead. He did say a cool/sincere thing about the Vladdy connection:
- “It’s going to be a lot of fun for me to manage his kid, and I’m sure Vlad’s going to talk to me about his kid.”
And…
- “I can’t wait for that, to see Vlad and give him a big hug, and I’m sure he’s going to be happy that I’m going to be the manager of his son.”
Charlie seems like the right company for this future Vladdy Blue Jays team. And I’m sure he will be the Skip who will lead these Vladdy Jays until the Vladdy Jays are no longer Vladdy Jays, too.
He is the 13th manager in Jays history and let’s hope that this number has a little bit of luck attached to it for his sake and all of ours. There is no need for any horror stories moving forward, and I’m pretty sure that is something that we can all agree on.
There wasn’t anything juicy said at the Charlie Montoyo press conference and we all knew that there wouldn’t be. I’m sure most of you have already seen clips of it, or read one of the many Monty quotes being circulated through the internet. But, this day wasn’t meant for hardball questions, or any of that dumb nonsense. It was about a guy who coached in the minors for years who has finally been given his big league managerial shot.
Today was Charlie Montoyo’s moment, and he deserved it…someone should’ve reminded Rosie DiManno of that.
I think that every reasonable Jays fan out there is excited for the future baseball years we are all going to be a part of on this Montoyo ship – as long as it doesn’t sink, of course.
Welcome to Toronto, Captain Charlie. We all want you to play to win, too. Let’s hope Rogers is on board.
