Now might be a good time to hop on the Yosver Zulueta hype train.

The 24-year-old hurler made his triple-A debut with the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday and didn’t look phased against the Rochester Red Wings – Washington’s triple-A affiliate. The Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect fared extremely well in his first action at the highest level of the minors, keeping his opponent off the scoreboard.

Zulueta tossed a scoreless fifth inning, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out a batter. He threw 16 pitches, with 11 of them registering as strikes.

Zulueta was promoted to triple-A Buffalo on Sep. 17, marking the fourth level he’s appeared at this season. The hard-throwing righty opened the campaign with low-A Dunedin, logging 12.0 innings before advancing to high-A Vancouver. There, he made six starts and completed 23.2 innings, earning a 3.80 ERA and 31 strikeouts.

From there, the 6-foot-1 hurler was promoted to double-A New Hampshire, where he made two starts and seven relief appearances. In total, the youngster posted a 4.11 ERA and 25 punchouts across 15.1 innings.

The Cuban native can reach triple digits with his fastball and also features a devasting slider, curveball and changeup. He missed all of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Tommy John surgery. In 2021, a torn ACL ended his season prematurely after making just one start.

Zulueta will be Rule 5 eligible this off-season, meaning the Blue Jays would need to place him on their 40-man roster to prevent another franchise from selecting him in the draft.
