The Toronto Blue Jays have added a fresh arm ahead of their three-game series versus the New York Yankees, which begins Friday at the Rogers Centre.
Prior to first pitch, the team has recalled right-hander Casey Lawrence from triple-A Buffalo, making him active for the series opener. To make room, reliever Jeremy Beasley has been optioned to the minors. He can only be sent down two additional times this season.
Lawrence, 34, last appeared in the majors back in May, when he made two relief appearances for the Blue Jays. The 6’2″ hurler threw 3.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk.
With the Buffalo Bisons, the right-hander has posted a 1.77 ERA, 3.39 FIP, .184 OPP AVG, 22.9 per cent strikeout rate and a 4.9 per cent walk rate across 61.0 innings in 10 starts. He leads the International League in ERA, ranks third in OPP AVG and fourth in FIP.
Beasley, 26, has made four appearances with the Blue Jays in 2022. His latest one occurred on Wednesday, where he threw three innings and allowed two runs on a pair of hits while striking out a season-high five batters in a 10-2 losing effort to the Baltimore Orioles.
On a related roster note, infielder Otto Lopez was taking ground balls during pre-game workouts and has a locker in the team’s clubhouse. Though, he’s yet to be officially recalled.
The Blue Jays currently sit second in the American League East Division with a 37-26 record, positioning them in the first wild-card seed.
