I mean, most people probably will forget Chris Coghlan’s career as a Toronto Blue Jay, but we’ll always have that flip.
The Jays announced Tuesday that they were cutting ties with the utility player as his rehab stint with Triple-A Buffalo came to an end. Coghlan was designated for assignment back on Aug. 12, and, after going unclaimed on waivers, has been released by the club.
Oddly enough, it says on the Jays website that Coghlan was released on Aug. 12, the same day as he was DFA’d, but nobody reported it. Maybe it’s a typo? Who cares?
Coghlan was placed on the 10-day disabled list in mid-June with a left wrist contusion. He spent two months on the DL — or, well, on the Jays’ version of Robidas Island — and it was pretty clear that he wasn’t going to work his way back on to the team.
It was discussed during spring training that Coghlan could be a possible solution to a murky left field situation, but that never happened. All told, Coghlan played in 60 games with the Blue Jays, posting a pretty horrific .200/.299/.267 slash line over 88 plate appearances.
But the flip!
