Oh yeah, that’s why Ricky Tiedemann is the Toronto Blue Jays’ top prospect.
On Wednesday evening, the 21-year-old left-handed pitcher made his fourth rehab appearance after being placed on the 7-day Injured List thanks to an elbow injury. As you can imagine, it went solid again.
This first batter he faced was caught looking at an 82.7 mph sweeper, one of numerous strikeouts during the evening for Tiedemann. After generating a line out for the second out of the inning, Tiedemann gave up a rare home run to give the Clearwater Threshers a 1-0 lead, before inducing a fly out to end the inning.
The bottom of the second went quicker, as he got Bryson Ware to ground out, before proceeding to strike out the next two batters he faced. Dakota Kotowski was caught looking at a 82.9 mph sweeper, while Jordan Viars struck out swinging at an 81.3 mph sweeper.
Tiedemann started the third inning striking out Lou Albrecht thanks to an 85.2 mph changeup, his fourth of the game. After a ground out, Diego Gonzalez doubled to put a runner in scoring position, but Tiedemann struck out Devin Saltiban thanks to a 97.6 mph heater.
For his final strikeout of the game, Tiedemann used a 97.5 mph heater to strike out Pierce Bennett looking. The next batter doubled and stole third, but was thrown out trying to score on a ground ball. Tiedemann was replaced by Irv Carter, who ended the inning with a strikeout.

All in all, Tiedemann finished with a line of 3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K with a home run given up, only his eighth in his career (and his third this season). Diving deeper into the stats, the 21-year-old generated nine whiffs, including five on nine total swings on the sweeper. His changeup was electric as well, generating three whiffs on four total swings, while the fastball had just one swing and miss on 12 total swings.
It was a good outing for Tiedemann, and expect him to rejoin the Buffalo Bisons soon.
