Game Threat: Jays (38-31) @ Orioles (38-27)

After a piss poor five-and-dive performance against the Jays last Sunday, Orioles pitcher Mike Wright (or is it Mark Wright? Who the fuck even knows?) watched his club’s relief crew get their tits lit by Edwin Encarnacion and crew. Over his own five innings in what would end up a series-clinching 11-6 Jays win, Wright managed to allow just four runs, despite giving up six hits and issuing five walks while striking out only six.

He was, in other words, in no position talk shit about anybody.

Oh, but talk shit this guy-passed-out-in-the-shitter-at-the-Havelock-Country-Jamboree looking motherfucker did!

“He’s really good but he’s also got holes,” Wright said to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun, referring to Encarnacion. “There’s a reason he’s batting .240. I think we give him too much credit.”

Since then he’s hit a ridiculous .438/.550/1.125, part of a thoroughly Edwin-esque thunderbolt of a hot streak. Edwin had a 104 wRC+ coming out of the Detroit series on June 8th. It now stands at 130. Since the start of May, Edwin’s wRC+ is 154.

Oh, but holes. Yeah. Big holes. Too much credit. LOL.

Wright sure had better find those holes tonight. He’s on the hill for Baltimore tonight, and Edwin is locked and loaded.

I know which one I’m betting on — and it’s not the fucking nobody.

Scuttlebutt

Hey! The Jays start this series just two games behind the Orioles in the AL East race, and even though it’s early June, the series feel pretty big. And that’s not because I’m some pissbaby Jays fan ready for it all to come crashing down, but because, if I’m one of the other teams in the division, I sure as fuck don’t want to let the Jays get out in front and start separating out from the pack. That’s getting ahead of myself, obviously, but the Jays were 19-23 on May 18th, as they headed to Minnesota. They’re 19-9 since and looking like the best team in the division. The obvious reason for that? It’s because they are.

As noted in my post on Jose Bautista’s injury, John Gibbons told reporters this afternoon that it’s possible we’ll see Troy Tulowitzki with the club this weekend in Baltimore. Sweet!

Gregor Chisholm notes that Brett Cecil will pitch in an intrasquad game tomorrow in Dunedin and is nearing a return. That’ll play, too!
