With a win today, the Blue Jays would move to only a half game back of the Rays in the standings. One by one they gotta jump the massive crowd of teams in front of them in the standings, and the best way to do that is to beat the teams in your sights. Take advantage of them when they’re cold and don’t look back!

News and Scuttlebutt

Some major-ish (???) relatively minor news today… The Blue Jays have released Chris Coghlan, who spent two months on the disabled list and was designated for assignment last week. That’s not really surprising because there isn’t a spot for Coghlan on the big league roster. Also, a mystery AL East team, likely the Yankees, claimed Marco Estrada on trade waivers, but apparently aren’t interested in pulling off a trade. So Marco will remain for the playoff push!

Blue Jays

Marco Estrada: 4.85 ERA, 135 1/1 IP, 8/9 H9, 1.4 HR9, 3.7 SO9, 9.3 BB9

Rays

Blake Snell: 4.69 ERA, 78 2/3 IP, 8.8 H9, 1.3 HR9, 4.9 BB9, 7.8 SO9
Marco Estrada has been excellent as of late, going seven innings in three consecutive starts, but he’s had troubles with the Rays this season. But that was back when the Rays could hit. Apparently they’ve forgotten how to do so, because Tampa has only scored 12 runs (!!!) in their last 10 games. With Blake Snell, who’s consistently been erratic enough to allow three or more runs, on the hill, this is a game that favours the Jays.
