The Toronto Blue Jays will look to secure a second consecutive series win against California clubs on Saturday as they host the Los Angeles Angels in game two of a three-game set.
Toronto’s playing some solid ball and were coming off a series win over the LA Dodgers when the Angels rolled into the Six on Friday night. Shohei Ohtani would do his thing crushing Kevin Gausman’s first pitch, a four-seam fastball, 397 feet into the right field bleachers in the top of the first.
But the Jays would respond and never look back.
Matt Chapman, who was visibly upset about the Ohtani homer in the first, loaded the count facing two outs against Angels starter Lucas Giolito before driving a four-seamer of his own 411 feet. Danny Jansen would continue his slugging ways with a home run of his own, as would Whit Merrifield with another solo shot. Couple it with a Bo Bichette RBI double, and you got a Jays team well in the driver’s seat.
Today, the Jays will get a look at lefty Reid Detmers as they send out Alek Manoah to take the mound. What kind of performance will we get from Manoah? Hopefully one that sees him continue to build off his last performance where he fared well against the Seattle Mariners.
Ohtani, meanwhile, draws into the lineup again tonight. He experienced cramping amid a double header Thursday against Detroit in which he threw a complete game in the first match, and hit a home run in the second.
During Friday night’s game, he left in the ninth inning due to more cramping.
