Last year, the Toronto Blue Jays delivered a death blow to the Boston Red Sox.
It came on July 22nd, when the Jays rolled into Fenway Park laying a 28-5 walloping on the Bo Sox, who had a 48-46 record at the time. The rest of the way, Boston would go 30-38 and finish dead last in the AL East.
The Jays sat 51-43 coming into that game and would climb the standings going a staggering 41-27 the rest of the way finishing second in the division.
This year? Well, it appears the Jays could be doing the exact same thing. Boston entered the series nipping on the Jays’ heels sitting three games back in the wild-card race with just Seattle ahead of them in the hunt.
Heading into Sunday with the Jays winning two straight, Boston now sits four games back with the New York Yankees jumping them in the race.
For the Jays, securing the series sweep on Sunday could be key to distancing themselves from the Red Sox in the standings. They’ll look to make it happen with Davis Schneider rocking up the lineup to hitting in the three-hole.
All Schneider’s done so far since he was called up for his rookie debut Friday is mash baseballs. In the series, he’s hitting 5-for-8 with a home run, four singles and a walk. He’s been electric so far for the Jays and will look to continue that today.
