Following a walk-off victory on Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays will look to clinch this weekend’s series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays are on a four-game winning streak and one more win would mark a new season-high for the team.
Yusei Kikuchi will take the mound for Toronto. The lefty will be looking to rebound following his worst outing of the season on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers. Kikuchi went just three innings, was tagged for five earned runs, and didn’t strike out a batter. It was an uncharacteristic start for Kikuchi, who has a 3.25 ERA over 11 appearances this season.
Going for the Pirates will be right-hander Mitch Keller. Selected in the second round of the 2014 MLB draft, Keller made his debut with the Pirates in 2019 and has become a mainstay in the team’s starting rotation. He was named to the National League All-Star team in 2023 and has a 3.59 ERA over 11 starts thus far in 2024. Over the month of May, Keller allowed just four earned runs in 27 2/3 innings.
There will be a few changes in John Schneider’s lineup on Saturday. Daulton Varsho is back after missing Friday’s game with food poisoning and will bat second, while Daniel Vogelbach will start in the designated hitter spot after coming through with a pinch-hit double on Friday night.
