Gerrit Cole got really mad when he saw the Blue Jays were beating Minnesota on Sunday

This weekend was a bit swing for the Blue Jays in the wild-card race, thanks in part to Cleveland.
The Blue Jays took care of business against the Twins on Saturday and Sunday. They won 6-2 on Saturday behind a good start from Steven Matz and then they won 5-3 on Sunday after a five-run explosion in the first inning.
Elsewhere, the Yankees couldn’t get the job done in their series against Cleveland. They got drilled 11-3 on Saturday night after Cleveland put up a seven-run fifth inning. On Sunday, ace Gerrit Cole took the mound in a huge game and wound up getting smacked around for seven earned runs over five-and-two-thirds innings in an 11-1 loss.
With the Yanks down 4-0 in the third inning, Cole looked to the out-of-town scoreboard hoping for some help. He did not find it…
Cole audibly yells FUCK as the scoreboard is updated to show the Blue Jays leading Minnesota by a score of 5-0 early in the game.
Another thing about Cole to note is that this more than likely puts the nail in the coffin for his American League Cy Young award pursuit. Robbie Ray leads the AL with a 2.64 ERA while Cole slipped all the way down to a 3.03 ERA with those seven earned runs. Assuming Ray doesn’t get lit up in one of his final starts of the season, it looks like the Cy Young is his.
With the back-to-back wins themselves coupled with back-to-back losses, the Blue Jays now have a game-and-a-half lead over the Yankees in the wild-card race. Toronto is a full game back of Boston to host the wild-card game, but they’re in the same spot in the loss column at 65 and the Blue Jays have a pair of games in hand.
Next up, the Blue Jays head to Tampa Bay with some room for error in a difficult three-game set at The Trop with the Rays. The Yankees will host our good friends, the Texas Rangers, and the Red Sox have Monday off before starting a two-game set against the Mets. The Yankees and Red Sox will then face off this weekend while the Blue Jays face the Twins again.
