Griffin Conine suspended 50 games

5 years agoThe Blue Jays’ second-round pick from the 2018 draft has been hit by the anti-drug hammer.
Griffin Conine reportedly used Ritalinic Acid, which, despite sounding like something you’d drop while on a find yourself trip in Thailand, is a psychostimulant for the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. As a result, Conine will have to sit out 50 games to start off the 2019 season. A thing to note: this is considered a drug abuse, rather than a PED, so Conine will get the same length of suspension as a player would get for smoking weed. Take that for what it’s worth.
So, well, that kinda sucks. It isn’t the end of the world, but it’s unfortunate Conine will need to sit out for a month-and-a-half to kick off the season. In 2018, the son of Florida Marlins legend Jeff Conine slashed a .243/.314/.430 line over 57 games between the Gulf Coast League and Vancouver.
