Kacy Clemens among the minor leaguers released by the Blue Jays

3 years agoLast week, Ben Nicholson-Smith reported that the Blue Jays would be among the many teams across Major League Baseball to release an exodus on minor league players. Given the inevitability that there won’t be a minor league season this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations are cutting as many as 50 players in order to save money on salaries.
Nicholson-Smith reported that the Jays would be letting go of 29 players. Per Baseball America, here are 26 players who were released from the Blue Jays system…
1B: Christian Williams, Jake Brodt, Kacy Clemens, Pedro Hurtado.
3B: Jesus Navarro, Jose Zepeda.
SS: Gustavo Gutierrez.
C: Francisco Ruiz, Junior Ramos.
OF: D.J. Daniels, Yeison Jimenez, Aldo Ovando, Hunter Steinmetz.
LHP: Juan Diaz, Junior A. Guzman, Warnel Valdez,
RHP: Brayan Aquino, Joneivy Polonia, Jorman Gonzalez, Juan Acosta, Juan Martinez, Miguel Olivo, Ronald Govea, Santos Moreno, Turner Larkins, Yunior Hinojosa.
There aren’t any major names here, just organization depth types who were mostly playing in either Lansing or Dunedin. The name that jumps out is Kacy Clemens, son of all-time pitching great Roger Clemens. Kacy was an eighth-round pick of the Jays in 2017 but slashed a .191/.283/.310 line between Single- and Double-A in 2019.
The highest draft pick on the list is outfielder D.J. Daniels, who was picked in the sixth round of the 2016 draft. He played all four of his seasons in the Blue Jays system with their rookie league affiliate in Bluefield.
Elsewhere, former Blue Jays Dalton Pompey, Travis Snider, and Edwin Jackson were among the players released by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
