It wasn’t a great day for the Blue Jays minor league system.
There were five teams in action with six games being played. The FCL Jays were postponed due to a wet ground, while only the two teams on win streaks won, giving the organization a 2-4 record.
Let’s dig into that in the latest Minor League Report!

Buffalo lost the series

On Saturday, the Buffalo Bisons fell 8-5 to move their second-half record to 1-4, worst in the International League East.
Riley Tirotta cannot be stopped, as he hit his eighth home run as a Bison in just 103 plate appearances. For the season, he has 11 home runs, with his combined 173 wRC+ being the best in the organization for any player with more than 10 plate appearances.
If you set the scope to eight plate appearances, Gabriel Cancel’s 236 wRC+ is the best in the organization, thanks to his first affiliated home run since 2022, as well as a double. Other players with a hit were Damiano Palmegiani, Max McDowell, and Miguel Hiraldo.
Mike Mayers made the start, finishing with a line of 3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K with a home run given up to bring his season ERA to 4.85. Brandon Eisert struck out four in two innings and two thirds pitched. Hayden Juenger gave up two earned runs while walking and striking out a batter in an inning and two thirds pitched.
Mason Fluharty was tagged with the loss, giving up three earned runs (four runs) while striking out two in two innings pitched to bring the season ERA to 3.46. Cancel pitched the final third of an inning, giving up a hit.

New Hampshire blown out

Things didn’t go much better for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, who fell 12-2 to the Hartford Yard Goats to move their second-half record to 2-3, worst in the Eastern League Northeast division.
The bats had a quiet day, registering just five hits, with Michael Turconi’s double being the only one of extra-base variety. Zach Britton, Rainer Nuñez, Devonte Brown, and Gabriel Martinez all had a single.
Pitching wasn’t great for the Fisher Cats. Michael Dominguez gave up five earned runs in an inning and two thirds. Hunter Gregory allowed an earned run and struck out two in two innings of work. Anders Tolhurst gave up three earned runs in an inning and a third, while Adrián Hernández allowed three unearned runs in an inning of work. Juan Nunez was the only pitcher who didn’t give up a run, striking out two in two innings of work.

Vancouver’s win streak hit eight games

The Vancouver Canadians are on a roll, as they won their eighth-straight game 7-4 against the Hillsboro Hops to start the second-half 8-0. Moreover, this win tied the longest win streak in franchise history.
No home runs were hit by the Canadians, but Dasan Brown had a great game, hitting his ninth double and finishing with three hits in five at-bats. Peyton Williams also had a single and a three-hit performance, while Jackson Hornung hit his ninth double of the season.
Je’Von Ward and Estiven Machado each had a two-hit performance, while Jace Bohrofen and Jean Arnaez each had a single. Robert Brooks walked three times.
Ryan Jennings made the start, finishing with a line of 3.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER (4 R), 1 BB, 5 K to bring his season ERA to 2.13. The bullpen had a great day, as Rafael Ohashi struck out a batter and allowed three hits in two innings and a third. Johnathan Lavallee struck out a batter in two innings of work, while Josh Mollerus picked up a save, striking out a batter in his inning of work.

Dunedin swept in the doubleheader

It wasn’t a great day for the Dunedin Blue Jays, as they were swept in the doubleheader, bringing their season record to 2-5. Just like the Buffalo Bisons and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the D-Jays are at the bottom of their division.
Game one saw the D-Jays lose 8-1 with the bats going cold. Victor Arias hit his fifth home run of the season, but that’s pretty much all the offence they’d muster. Arjun Nimmala and Jean Joseph each had a single, while Robert Robertis walked twice.
Grant Rogers made the start in game one, finishing with a line of 4 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K to bring his season ERA to 4.42. Bo Bonds struck out a batter in an inning of work, while Jordan Powell gave up three earned runs (four total) and three walks in an inning of work.
The second game was closer, at least, as the D-Jays fell 3-2 in extra innings thanks to a walk-off. Once again, the bats were quiet aside from a solo home run from Canadian Nicolas Deschamps, who hit his second of the season. Manuel Beltre had two singles, while Tucker Toman had a single and drove in a run.
Fernando Pérez made the start for the D-Jays, finishing with a line of 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K to bring his season ERA to 3.60. Irv Carter had the blown save, giving up an earned run while walking and striking out two in an inning and a third pitched. Kai Peterson was tagged with the loss, walking three batters in an inning and a third and giving up an unearned run.

DSL Jays are on a nine game win streak

The Dominican Summer League Jays have been unstoppable in recent times, as their 10-0 win over the DSL Mariners was their ninth-straight win to bring their record to 14-5. They are 1.5 games back of the division lead.
Interestingly, there were just five hits for the DSL Jays. Angel Guzmán hit his fifth double of the season, while David Beckles hit his firs home run in the organization as well, a grand slam. Juarlin Soto, Franklin Rojas, and Jarold Montealto had the team’s other three hits, all singles.
So how did they score 10 runs? Well, they walked a ton. J. Soto walked thrice (he has a 30 BB%), as did Ramon Flores. On top of that, Randy Soto, Yorman Licourt, Rojas, and Dariel Romano all walked once.
Pitching was strong, as Angel Rivero struck out two and walked a batter in his three innings of work. Victor Espiritu also walked three times while giving up two walks and striking out a batter. Ismauri Bueno struck out two and walked a batter in his inning of work.
