The bad news is that the Blue Jays organization lost all their games on Wednesday.
With all four affiliates losing on Wednesday, plus the Toronto Blue Jays’ loss to the Kansas City Royals, this is what we refer to as an “organizational sweep”. It’s not great.
Let’s dig into what happened on the minor league side.

Buffalo blown out

The start of a new series saw the Buffalo Bisons drop the opener 8-2, moving their record to 12-9, which is third in the International League East.
Will Robertson hit his fifth home run of the season, which was arguably one of the lone bright spots of the game. Brian Serven had a terrific game, finishing with the only multi-hit evening going 2-2 with two walks and finishing with a double. Rafael Lantigua and Spencer Horwitz also had doubles.
In terms of players with a hit, Damiano Palmegiani, Leo Jimenez, and Cam Eden all had a single. One player who didn’t have a hit was Orelvis Martinez, as he went 0-4 with two strikeouts, with his 15-game hit streak ending Wednesday. Truly a sad day.
Alek Manoah made his third rehab appearance in Triple-A, and it didn’t go great. He finished with a line of 3 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 5 K with two home runs given up. Nick Fraze replaced him, and finished with a line of 2.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K.
The bullpen settled down afterwards, with Troy Watson finishing with two strikeouts while giving up a hit and a walk in 2.2 innings pitched. Connor Cooke allowed two hits and struck out one batter.
Buffalo will play a doubleheader on Thursday.

New Hampshire gives up six runs in one inning

Coming into the top of the seventh, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats had a 2-1 lead, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies put up a six spot, with the Fisher Cats’ rally falling short, losing 7-6. This brings their record to 8-9, third in the Eastern League Northeast division.
Riley Tirotta returned from a rehab appearance in Dunedin, and hit his first home run of the season. He was one of three players with a multi-hit game, as Gabriel Martinez hit his seventh double and had two hits, while Phil Clarke had two doubles and finished the day 3-4 with a walk.
Other players with a hit were Alex De Jesus, Andres Sosa, Devonte Brown, and Josh Kasevich, who is now batting .375/.437/.484 with a homer in 71 plate appearances for a 162 wRC+.
Michael Dominguez had a solid start, finishing with a line of 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K with a home run given up. Alejandro Melean was tagged with the loss, giving up six earned runs in his inning and two thirds of work. Left-handed reliever Ian Churchill walked and struck out a batter in his inning and a third of work, while Eric Pardinho finished with a strikeout in a clean inning of work.

Vancouver’s rally falls short

Just like the Fisher Cats, Vancouver was down late in the game and their rally fell short, losing 5-4.
The game became interesting in the bottom of the ninth, as two walks allowed Jackson Hornung to hit his second professional home run. This season, the catcher is slashing .282/.349/.385 in 43 plate appearances, but has a 30.2 K%.
Hornung had two of three Vancouver hits, with Nick Goodwin being the only other player to reach base with a hit, a double. Jace Bohrofen walked twice, while Goodwin and Ryan McCarty both walked once, with the latter stealing his fourth base of the season.
Kevin Miranda made the start for the Canadians, finishing with a line of 4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K to bring his season ERA to 3.55. Alex Amalfi pitched two innings, giving up an earned run and striking out a batter, while Justin Kelly allowed two hits and struck out a batter. Kelly now has a 2.57 season ERA.
Chay Yeager made another appearance, allowing an earned run, two hits, a walk, while striking out a batter. Andres Tolhurt struck out two batters in a clean inning of work.

Dunedin shut out again

After a hot start in the Florida State League West, the Dunedin Blue Jays have now fallen to 9-8 and are now in the midst of a five-game losing streak.
The D-Jays had just four hits during the game, with Victor Arias having two of them (both singles). Arjun Nimmala and Manuel Beltre both had singles as well.
Despite the loss, pitching wasn’t bad by any means. Juaron Watts-Brown made the start and finished with a line of 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER (2 R), 2 BB, 6 K with a home run given up. His fastball averaged 93 mph, maxing out at 94.4 mph. Moreover, he generated 14 whiffs on 39 total swings for a 36 whiff%, with the slider generating five whiffs on eight total swings. Good start, all around.
Aaron Munson pitched two innings in relief, striking out three batters and giving up an unearned run. His season ERA sits at 2.89. Yondrei Rojas pitched an inning, walking two batters and striking out one, while Jordan Powell struck out two batters and walked one in his inning of work.
