The Toronto Blue Jays will begin a three-game series with the White Sox in Chicago on Monday afternoon after a disappointing start to their road trip in Detroit over the weekend.
Toronto dropped three of four games to the Tigers, including a disappointing 14-11 slugfest on Sunday afternoon. With the game tied at 11 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano coughed up a game-winning three-run homer to send Toronto limping into Chicago on Monday.

Chicago dropped all three games over the weekend to the Baltimore Orioles to extend its losing streak to five games entering play Monday. The White Sox have the distinction of owning the worst record (15-39) in baseball and they’re already 21 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for top spot in the American League Central.
Let’s dive into the game odds for Monday’s clash between the Blue Jays and White Sox courtesy of bet365:

Betting Toronto Blue Jays (23-29 SU, 25-27 ATS, 22-30 o/u)

The pressure is mounting for the 23-29 Blue Jays to start stringing some wins together and make a push towards .500. If the team continues to struggle against the lowly White Sox early this week, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a significant firing or roster move in order to shake things up.
Toronto’s bullpen continues to be a major sticking point, with the unit surrendering nine runs on Sunday. The team’s relievers have a combined 5.01 ERA, which ranks 28th in the majors. They’ve also surrendered 30 home runs, the second most in the league.

On a more positive note, first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is heating up after a slow start. He’s coming off a four-hit game against the Tigers and is now slashing .302/.393/.427 on the season. Those numbers improve to a blistering .402/.473/.536 over the last 30 days.
Toronto took two of three games against Chicago last week at Rogers Centre, winning both of those contests in blowout fashion. The White Sox shut the Blue Jays out in the middle game of the series.

Betting Chicago White Sox (15-39 SU, 23-31 ATS, 24-28-2 o/u)

This team just flat-out stinks. The White Sox rank last in the majors in runs per game (2.9), 28th in runs allowed per game (5.1), and last in hits per game (6.9). Oh, and they have a league-worst minus-116 run differential.
The picture doesn’t get any rosier on the pitching side of things either. Chicago’s pitchers have a combined 4.70 ERA (29th in majors) and they’ve coughed up a league-leading 74 home runs.
The roster is also riddled with injuries at the moment, most notably to third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin), and outfielders Luis Robert (hip) and Eloy Jimenez (hamstring).

Probable starting pitchers

Toronto: RHP Chris Bassitt (4-6, 4.39 ERA, 7.97 K/9, 1.46 WHIP)
Bassitt will be facing Chicago for the second straight start and he’ll be attempting to replicate his results last time out. The righty threw seven dominant innings last Wednesday, holding the White Sox scoreless while scattering just five hits with four strikeouts. He boasts an impressive 2.88 ERA across four outings this month and he hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in each of those appearances.
Chicago: RHP Nick Nastrini (0-3, 11.91 ERA, 6.35 K/9, 2.56 WHIP)
Nastrini pitched opposite Bassitt last Wednesday when these two teams clashed and had completely opposite results. Making just his third start of the season, Nastrini was hammered for eight earned runs on seven hits by the Blue Jays and he walked six batters. The right-hander has struggled with control in a small sample size this year, issuing 13 free passes in 11 1/3 innings pitched. Nastrini’s fastball averages roughly 94 mph and he throws it over 50% of the time, according to Baseball Savant. Hitters are destroying his three off-speed pitches, though, batting .353 against his slider, .400 against his changeup, and 1.000 off his curveball.

Weather

It should be a beautiful afternoon for baseball in Chicago with temperatures expected to be around 21 C and sunny skies. Winds will be blowing out to left field at 12 mph.

MLB betting trends

  • The White Sox are 0-5 straight-up and 0-5 on the runline in their last five games.
  • The Blue Jays have been favourites in 32 games this season and have won just 17 of those contests outright (53.1%).
  • The over is 3-1 in Toronto’s last four games.

MLB player prop trends

  • Bassitt has walked two or more batters in three straight starts and nine of his last 10. He’s -120 to record over 1.5 walks.
  • Toronto third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa is swinging a hot bat right now, posting multi-hit efforts in four of his last five games. He’s -245 to get a hit and +145 to record over 1.5 total bases.
  • Blue Jays infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider has driven in a run in three straight games and four of his last five. He’s +140 to record at least one RBI.

Blue Jays vs. White Sox predictions

  • Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette could be poised for a big game. He took Nastrini deep last week (now 2-for-3 in his career against him) and he’s posted multi-hit efforts in four of his last five games. He’s +475 to go deep and -125 to record over 1.5 total bases.
  • Blue Jays to lead after five innings: -125. The Blue Jays put 14 hits on the board Sunday and they absolutely destroyed Nastrini last week. They should jump out to an early lead and Bassitt should hold Chicago relatively at bay for five or six innings. Toronto’s bullpen is way too shaky right now to back the Jays on the full game moneyline or runline in this one, though.
  • You won’t find any Nastrini props at bet365 as of Monday morning, but if they are posted prior to the game, consider fading him in walks and pitcher outs. Chicago only used one reliever on Sunday, so Nastrini will have an extremely short leash with a fresh bullpen available.
