Rangers 7, Blue Jays 4: The struggles continue

The Blue Jays are now on a season-high four-game losing streak. Jaime Garcia had a rough start and the offence wasn’t able to pull the team back into it.

Things worth mentioning…

  • This was probably Garcia’s worst start since joining the Blue Jays. He struggled with command for most of the game, served up a couple of meatballs that got cranked out of the park, and was only able to clear five innings while allowing five earned runs. Actually, if you look at Garcia’s start by start results, he seems to be tapering off since his first two strong starts.
  • The starting pitching neeeeeeeeds to be better because the bullpen is extremely taxed right now. The Jays lack a true long guy who can come out and mop up four or five innings if necessary which is an issue given how the starters have pitched recently. To the ‘pen’s credit, they pitched well, allowing just one run in the final four innings.
  • Lourdes Gurriel cranking his first homer of his career was probably the highlight of the game for the Jays. He absolutely crushed this ball for a no-doubter. Damn, that’s a gorgeous swing.
  • Otherwise, there wasn’t much positive to talk about. The Jays have ran into an issue with sequencing as they aren’t coming up with the big hits that make the difference in the game like they were earlier on the season. They’re getting guys on base, hitting the ball hard, and doing some things well, but a combination of mediocre starting pitching and an inability to come up with a big hit at the right time has the Jays on their first cold slide of the year.
