Series Recap: SWEEEEP

Leave it to the Trash Birds to roll into town and completely turn around a dejected Blue Jays team. The Jays hammered the O’s over this weekend’s four-game series and now sit in third place in the American League East.

What happened?

On Thursday after getting completely shut down over the course of eight innings by *checks notes* David Hess and Baltimore’s ‘pen, the Jays mounted a three-run, ninth-inning rally off of Brad Brach before Aledmys Diaz hit a walk-off single in the 10th. 5-4 Blue Jays.
On Friday a strong start by J.A. Happ and a bunch of solo homers led the Jays to an easy win. 5-1 Blue Jays.
On Saturday Aaron Sanchez put together another quality outing but the ‘pen wasn’t able to close the door. Fortunately, Baltimore’s ‘pen wasn’t any better as the Jays ended up winning on a walk-off walk in the 10th. 4-3 Blue Jays.
On Sunday the bats completely teed off on Alex Cobb. Marco Estrada was also excellent even though he didn’t really have to be. 13-3 Blue Jays.

Things worth mentioning…

  • The Orioles fuuuuuuucking suck.
  • The Blue Jays have had their best stretch of pitching in a long time as of late. All four starters put together a quality start over this four-game series pushing Toronto’s streak of quality starts to eight. It’s been a while since the team has had a stretch of starts like this.
  • A very positive thing about this series was Randal Grichuk. He had a three-hit game on Thursday, a two-hit game on Friday, and another three-hit game Sunday. His OPS is all the way up to .656 on the season. Yeah, I mean, no it doesn’t look that good, but his batting average was under .100 for a damn long period of time. He finally looks like he has it together at the plate.

Up next…

The Jays will head to Tampa Bay on Monday for a three-game series with the Rays. After that, they kick off a National League swing with the Nationals and Braves.
