Six players on the Toronto Blue Jays have been named finalists for this year’s Silver Slugger awards.
Much like the Gold Glove, the Silver Slugger is an award that recognizes the best offensive player at each position in each league. It’s voted on by Major League managers and coaches, and they aren’t able to vote for players on their own team.
The Blue Jays’ finalists are Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base, Matt Chapman at third, Bo Bichette at short, Teoscar Hernandez in the outfield, Alejandro Kirk at catcher, and George Springer at designated hitter.
Vladdy, Hernandez, and Marcus Semien were Toronto’s three winners last year, Springer was named a Silver Slugger in 2017 and 2019 while with the Houston Astros, and Chapman, Bichette, and Kirk have never won the award before.
