The Blue Jays Are Undefeated In 2018

6 years agoBaseball! It’s back! After a long, dark, cold winter, the Blue Jays played a baseball game today.
It was only a spring training game against the Phillies, but damn did it feel nice to see a score update pop up on my phone. These games are going to get old quickly as we move into the dog days of March, but let’s enjoy the fact that baseball is back and the Jays are undefeated in 2018.
Things worth mentioning…
- In his first at bat for his new team, Curtis Granderson clubbed a leadoff solo bomb off of *squints* Nick Pivetta. That’s a nice way to make a first impression. Hopefully we see many of those from Granderson when the real season begins.
- Soon after that, Randal Grichuk took a walk, moved up on a Rowdy Tellez single, and scored on an Aledmys Diaz single. Diaz and Yangervis Solarte also teamed up for a nice double play, so, overall, it was a pretty good day for new Blue Jays. Solarte was hitless in two trips to the plate.
- Joe Biagini got the start and tossed two clean innings. He allowed one hit and picked up two strikeouts over the two frames. The most interesting thing about Biagini today was his new windup in which he dropped the wiggle to simplify his throwing motion. He also looks quite a bit thinner than he did last year likely in an attempt to increase his stamina to be a starter.
- Tim Mayza, Matt Dermody, Craig Breslow, Al Albuquerque, Luis Santos, and Jose Fernandez each had clean innings, while prospect Sean Reid-Foley got smacked around a little bit. Reid-Foley allowed a run on three hits, which was the only run surrendered by the Jays all game.
- Did I mention that I’m fucking pumped that baseball is back? 1-0, baby.
