The Blue Jays have reportedly called up Nate Pearson from Triple-A

It looks like the Toronto Blue Jays are adding a weapon to their bullpen.

According to Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic, right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson is on his way to Toronto to join the Blue Jays ahead of their series with the Chicago White Sox…

Pearson was once the Blue Jays’ top prospect and he was among the top pitching prospects in all of baseball. Coming into the 2020 season, he was ranked as the No. 7 prospect on Baseball America’s Top 100 list and MLB Pipeline had him as their No. 8 prospect.

The trouble for Pearson throughout his career has been staying healthy. His 2018 season was limited to just one outing as Pearson was struck by a line drive and broke a bone in his right arm. Pearson pitched through three levels in 2019 and made his big-league debut in 2020, but issues with a sports hernia in 2021 and mono in 2022 derailed his development as a starting pitcher.

The Blue Jays opted to move Pearson to the bullpen rather than stretching him out as a starter ahead of spring training this year. The hope is that the fireballer can make good on his potential and become a late-inning option for the Blue Jays.

Given the way he’s pitching in Buffalo, there’s plenty of reason for optimism. Through eight-and-one-third innings for the Bisons this season, Pearson has allowed just two earned runs on five hits and five walks while striking out a whopping 16 batters.
