Another Blue Jays affiliate team have clinched its spot in the postseason.
On Sunday afternoon, the Dunedin Blue Jays and Bradenton Marauders were rained out on the final day of the Low A season. Due to the winning percentage in the second half, the Dunedin Blue Jays clinched their ticket to the playoffs. Their first series will start on Tuesday.
They join the Vancouver Canadians as the only two Jays affiliates that will likely make the postseason. However, unlike the Northwest League playoffs, the Dunedin Blue Jays will play a three game series against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. If they win, they’ll face the winner of the Palm Beach Cardinals and St Lucie Mets series in a second three game series.
Fort Myers had a 27-36 record in the second half, the second worst in the Florida State League West standings. Furthermore, they have a 16-35 record against teams above .500 and an 8-23 record at home.
The only team that streams their home games out of these four teams is the St. Lucie Mets so I hope that they beat the Cardinals so we can watch the Baby Jays in the playoffs!
The Dunedin Blue Jays were able to make the playoffs on the backs of the recently drafted players. Position players such as Devonte Brown (172 wRC+ in 107 plate appearances), Cade Doughty (147 wRC+ in 119 plate appearances), Ryan McCarty (127 wRC+ in 74 plate appearances), and Peyton Williams (116 wRC+ in 123 plate appearances), gave their offense a huge boost.
From the pitching side of things, new draftees such as Ian Churchill (0.75 ERA in 12 innings pitched) and Ryan Jennings (2.16 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched). Furthermore, the Dunedin Blue Jays also got help from 2021 draftee Irv Carter and shortstop prospect, Manuel Beltre.
All the Dunedin Blue Jays need is four more wins, so let’s hope that they can pull it out!
As always, you can follow me on Twitter. Sunday was the last regular season game for both the Vancouver Canadians and Dunedin Blue Jays, so it’s nice that they’ll be playing an additional 2-3 games at the very least.
