The Blue Jays didn’t sweep a series last season until the middle of May. They also didn’t have their fifth win until April 23rd, which was their 18th game of the season. Tonight, a win over the White Sox would give them their first series sweep of 2018 and their fifth win of the season. Let’s keep the good times going!
After their scheduled off-day, both Devon Travis and Russell Martin will be back on the field and in the lineup tonight. John Gibbons has said both will receive a fair amount of time off as the team looks to protect them from injuries.
Travis has struggled with the stick so far this season. Through 17 plate appearances, he has just one hit and one walk and he’s struck out eight times. Martin hasn’t been too hot either, as he has just two hits and two walks in 13 plate appearances. One of those hits, though, was a massive bomb in Monday’s come-from-behind win. Both Yangervis Solarte and Luke Maile (???!!) have been strong in relief of Martin and Travis. #RaiseTheFloor.
Another note, Aledmys Diaz will be out of the lineup tonight after hurting himself taking a swing in last night’s win. He left the game due to back spasms. According to Hazel Mae, he’s taking batting practice today, which is a good sign.
The Jays will send Aaron Sanchez out for his second start of the season while the White Sox will trot out 2015 eighth overall pick Carson Fulmer. He has a good arm, but Fulmer has struggled in the past with the strike zone.
