Today&#8217;s game between the Blue Jays and the Angels included a day-long celebration of the 30 year anniversary of the 1992 World Series champion Toronto Blue Jays.

Multiple Blue Jays legends were recognized on the Sportsnet broadcast such as Dave Stieb, Mike Timlin, Joe Carter, Pat Borders and many more. All of those aforementioned names were spectators for an absolute duel between two of the MLB&#8217;s best pitchers in Alek Manoah and Shohei Ohtani. Unfortunately, they couldn&#8217;t celebrate a win, as the Angels defeated Toronto 2-0, shutting out the Blue Jays for a second straight day.
Both pitchers were on their game from the jump, as they both pitched to their strengths. Ohtani blew batters away with his 98+ mph fastballs and his wipeout splitter/slider, while Manoah had plenty of movement on his fastballs and sliders. They both also had to overcome long first innings by their standards; Manoah and Ohtani threw 25 and 28 pitches, respectively.
Their final lines were very similar, but the biggest difference was that Manoah was the first to blink as he allowed an RBI single to Luis Rengifo in the top of the 6th. The inning could&#8217;ve looked a little different had one play gone their way; with runners on first and second with no outs, Ohtani grounded a ball to Manoah on the mound. The Jays originally turned the double play, but being the outstanding athlete that he is, Ohtani beat out the throw to first upon review. Had they gotten two outs there, who knows if it would&#8217;ve changed how Manoah had pitched to Rengifo. Regardless, it put Toronto down 1-0.

Yimi Garcia pitched the 8th inning for Toronto, an inning that included the first ejection of John Schneider&#8217;s interim managerial career. Schneider was unimpressed with home plate umpire Shane Livensparger&#8217;s strike zone during a Mike Ford at-bat that would end in a walk. That walk would load the bases with two outs, but Garcia got out of the inning retiring Jo Adell via a flyout to Jackie Bradley Jr.
Andrew Velazquez hit his 8th home run of the season in the 9th inning off of Anthony Bass. It was Velazquez&#8217; second straight game with a home run; coming into this series, he had only hit six all season, because of course.
The Blue Jays couldn&#8217;t string anything together offensively in the 9th inning with the meat of their order at the plate, as they were shut out once again. They didn&#8217;t register a hit after the 3rd inning, with George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. being the only ones to do it.
Toronto will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon as Ross Stripling will face newly acquired Tucker Davidson. Hopefully we&#8217;ll see Teoscar Hernandez be back in the lineup tomorrow, as he sat out today&#8217;s game nursing his left foot.
