I mean, of course. Steve Pearce left Sunday’s game against the Seattle Mariners after legging out a double, and has since been placed on the 10-day DL with a right calf strain. In a corresponding move, the Jays have recalled Leonel Campos from Triple-A Buffalo, leaving them with just two extra players on their bench tonight in Atlanta.
Pearce hasn’t been doing much with the bat this season, owning a .205/.256/.373 slash line through 90 plate appearances. He had been swinging the stick better, as of late though, making this timing even more frustrating.
So yeah! This bizarre season of never-ending injuries continues, as Pearce joins Russell Martin, Troy Tulowitzki, Josh Donaldson, J.A. Happ, and Dalton Pompey, Glenn Sparkman, and Bo Schultz from spring training injuries, on the shelf.
Woof. Okay. The Jays will roll with the nine-man ‘pen tonight, which could be because Mike Bolsinger is starting and a short outing is possible. But there really aren’t many reinforcements left on the 40-man roster. Darrell Ceciliani would be the obvious choice, but beyond him it’s prospects Richard Urena, Anthony Alford, or Harold Ramirez. If I had to guess, I would assume Ceciliani will be up when the teams go to Atlanta on Wednesday, because of the NL rules and all that jazz, but we’ll wait and see.
