With the MLB off-season starting, so too do the rumours.

Things have been slow this winter as teams wait for the biggest domino, Shohei Ohtani, to sign somewhere to kick off the free-agent market. And then as big names such as Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman, and Blake Snell sign, the trade market will likely heat up for teams who struck out on their top options. 
The Blue Jays are said to be interested in just about everybody on the open market but time will tell if they can land anyone. That begs the question, when it comes to trades, which Blue Jays prospects are untouchable? Well, the Blue Jays only have one prospect who should be unavailable in a trade, but there’s an argument that they should be wary of moving a few others, so let’s jump in.
<h2>Ricky Tiedemann is untouchable:</h2>
This is not the first time I’ve said this phrase, nor will it be the last.
Left-handed starters are a commodity in baseball, but a left-handed starter that is nearing triple digits consistently? Yeah, there&#8217;s only a handful of them in the league.
While his velocity ticked down towards the end of the year, averaging in the mid-90s, Tiedemann has shown nothing but ace potential since the Jays drafted him in the 2021 draft with their third-round selection.
In his most recent season, he posted a 3.68 ERA and a 1.68 FIP, along with a 44.1 K% and a 12.4 BB% in 44 innings pitched with Single-A Dunedin, Double-A New Hampshire, and Triple-A Buffalo. The 21-year-old also won the Arizona Fall League pitcher of the season, posting a 2.50 ERA in 18 innings pitched, along with a 31.5 K% and an 11 BB%. Had he not been shut down early, Tiedemann easily would have led in innings pitched and strikeouts.
It’s only a matter of time before Tiedemann will make the Blue Jays squad, and that could happen as soon as 2024.

<h2>Who else?</h2>
The Blue Jays 2023 first-round selection, Arjun Nimmala, is nearly untouchable. The 18-year-old shortstop already has some serious raw power and good defensive instinct. In his first 40 plate appearances, Nimmala slashed .200/.500/.320 with a 35 BB% and two extra-base hits in the Florida Complex League.
Orelvis Martinez, Davis Schneider, Spencer Horwitz, Addison Barger and Damiano Palmegaini may not be untouchable, but I’d argue that keeping them around as quality depth options for the team would more than likely outweigh the idea of trading them. Teams that consistently make the playoffs, such as the Houston Astros or Los Angeles Dodgers, always have prospects come up to supplement their team. 
The Blue Jays are now at that point where spending is pretty high, so having a guy like Schneider in 2023 help push the team to the playoffs is needed. If it weren&#8217;t for Schneider&#8217;s hot streak in August, the Blue Jays might not have been a playoff team. 
Either way, we’re bound to see some trades as the free agent class is pretty shallow. Could the Jays make a trade for Juan Soto or some other elite player who fills a need? It’s to be seen, but the current state of their farm system would suggest they should be pursuing upgrades on the open market rather than through trade.
