The 2025 season is Chris Bassitt’s final year under contract with the Toronto Blue Jays.

We’ll look at how the player performed in 2024, his season projections for the 2025 season, and any storylines heading into this coming season. In this article, we’ll look at Chris Bassitt.

Bassitt signed with the Jays following the 2022 season where he finished with a 3.42 ERA and a 3.66 FIP in 181.2 innings pitched with the New York Mets. His first season with the Jays was solid, as the right-handed pitcher posted a 3.60 ERA and a 4.28 FIP in 200 innings pitched, with a 22.5 K% and a 7.1 BB%. It’s the first time Bassitt has ever hit that mark in a season.
Unfortunately, his 2024 season was a steep drop off from the season prior, as the 35-year-old had a 4.16 ERA and a 4.08 FIP in 171 innings pitched, with a 22.2 K% and a 9.2 BB%. Bassitt’s ERA of 4.16 was the worst of his career in seasons with a minimum of 50 innings pitched.
<a href="https://www.fangraphs.com/players/chris-bassitt/12304/stats?position=P">According to Fangraphs’ Steamer projections</a>, he’s set to have a similar season to last, as it has him posting a 4.10 ERA and a 4.15 FIP in 179 innings pitched, with a 21.6 K% and a 7.8 BB%.
The big storyline for Bassitt heading into the 2025 season is that it’s his final season under contract. He seemed like an ideal trade candidate before last season’s trade deadline when the Blue Jays were selling, but they elected to hold onto him.
If the Blue Jays are in the same scenario as last season, which is becoming more and more likely as they still have yet to add a power bat, Bassitt is a prime candidate to be moved if they decide to sell.
Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
