The Toronto Blue Jays are parting ways with Connor Seabold.
After designating Seabold for assignment last week, the Jays are sending the right-hander to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for prospect pitcher Denis Samudio and cash considerations.
Samudio is a 21-year-old right-hander who was signed by the Royals as an international free agent last winter. He spent the entire 2025 season in the Dominican Summer League, appearing in 11 games (nine starts). He pitched to a 1.72 ERA and a 0.955 WHIP across 36.2 innings, striking out 44 batters compared to 10 walks and a 2.5 BB/9.
The Panamanian product made the jump stateside this season, starting in the ACL before getting promoted to Single-A Columbia early into the campaign.
With the ACL Royals, Samudio appeared in two games and pitched to a 3.18 ERA, allowing two earned runs across 5.2 innings. He would be promoted to Columbia in mid-May, and since then, has appeared in four games for the Fireflies, pitching in a bulk capacity. Across 14 innings, Samudio has allowed seven earned runs off 10 hits and eight walks, slotting in at a 4.50 ERA and a 1.286 WHIP. He’s also struck out opposing bats at a 10.9 K/9 rate.
Heading to Kansas City is right-hander Connor Seabold, who was DFA’d by the Jays last week when Max Scherzer returned to the big league roster.
Seabold started the season with Toronto but was released by the club during Spring Training after he was informed he wouldn’t make the Opening Day roster. He then signed with the Detroit Tigers and appeared in 11 games for the big league squad, posting a 3.45 ERA across 15 2/3 innings.
Toronto would re-acquire Seabold on May 27th, sending left-handed prospect Juanmi Vasquez the other way. Seabold struggled mightily in the Jays’ bullpen, allowing three earned runs across 3.1 innings of work, striking out just one batter while walking two. He was out of options and had to be DFA’d to bring Scherzer back to the roster.
