The New York Mets series is in the rear-view mirror.
Through two games against the Boston Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays have won each game thanks to clutch base hits. George Springer hit three separate two-out, RBI singles on Monday (and a home run on Tuesday), while Bo Bichette had three singles and three RBI on Tuesday. The Jays look to win their third consecutive game on Wednesday, as well as the series against the Red Sox.
Looking at their lineup, the top of the lineup remains the same: Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (who had his extension officially announced today), and Anthony Santander. Those three players have combined for eight extra-base hits, none of which are home runs, which is concerning.
Andrés Giménez returns to the starting lineup, batting in the cleanup spot. Of anyone in the lineup (Springer has an off-day), his OPS is the highest. In fact, only Bichette and Will Wagner, who bat fifth, have an OPS above .700 so far this season. Wagner will play first base for the first time this season with Guerrero Jr. playing in the designated hitter role.
Catcher Alejandro Kirk also returns to the lineup, batting sixth. It’s been a tough start to the season for Kirk, similar to last season. Alan Roden bats seventh, the highest spot he’s batted in the lineup in his young big league career. Ernie Clement bats eighth and Nathan Lukes bats ninth.
