The Toronto Blue Jays look to keep the good times rolling.
On Tuesday evening, the Jays return home from the West Coast road trip to host the Tampa Bay Rays, the first time the two American League East teams play this season. Coming into this game, the Rays have an 18-22 record and sit fourth in the AL East, two games behind the Blue Jays.
Returning to the lineup is designated hitter/outfielder Anthony Santander, who has missed the past three games due to a minor shoulder injury. He’ll bat in his usual spot, third in the lineup. While Santander is set to return, the Jays won’t have starting catcher Alejandro Kirk in the lineup. In Sunday’s game, he was hit with a backswing and was later taken out of the game. Tyler Heineman fills in the lineup and is batting eighth.
Addison Barger remains in the lineup as Andres Gimenez is still on the 10-day Injured List. Since Gimenez’s injury, Barger has now started five consecutive games at third base, and it’s safe to say it’s his to lose moving forward.
The top three in the Jays’ batting order remain unchanged: Bo Bichette leads off, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. bats second, and Santander bats third. George Springer is in the cleanup spot, and left Daulton Varsho follows him. Ernie Clement, Barger, Heineman, and Nathan Lukes round out the bottom half of their batting order.
Jose Berrios is set to make his ninth start of the season. Since his disastrous Opening Day, the righty has a 3.02 ERA and a 4.19 FIP in 41.2 innings pitched, along with 40 strikeouts.
With that being said, let’s set up Tuesday’s game as the Jays try to make it five wins in a row!
