The Rogers Centre dome is open for the first time this season, which means summer has truly begun.
On Thursday, the Toronto Blue Jays play a rubber match against the Tampa Bay Rays. After dropping the first game in back-and-forth fashion, catcher Alejandro Kirk won Wednesday’s game with one swing of the bat, his third home run of the season.
The Jays now have an opportunity to win their second consecutive series after dropping five of six heading into the matchup with the Seattle Mariners. In their past six games, the Jays have five wins to pull back to .500 for the season. Kevin Gausman starts this game, and the right-handed pitcher is looking to have a better start than his last game, where he gave up three earned runs in five and one-third innings.
Returning to the Rays’ lineup is Josh Lowe, who suffered an oblique strain on Opening Day and hasn’t played a big league game since. He’ll bat lead-off for the Rays on Thursday.
As for the Blue Jays lineup, Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Anthony Santander make up the top third of the lineup. George Springer is batting lead-off, while the surging Kirk bats fifth. Addison Barger is in the sixth spot, with the bottom third being comprised of Ernie Clement, Myles Straw, and Nathan Lukes. Daulton Varsho has the day off.
Let’s set up Thursday afternoon’s rubber match!
