The Toronto Blue Jays are shuffling the 26th man on their roster again.

The team announced on Monday afternoon that Jordan Luplow has been assigned to Triple-A Buffalo while Nathan Lukes has been recalled in his place.

Lukes was a minor-league free-agent signing by the Blue Jays following the 2021 season. He put up solid results with the Bisons in 2022 and was added to the 40-man roster ahead of this off-season’s Rule 5 Draft.

Following a strong showing in spring training, Lukes cracked the Blue Jays’ big-league roster out of camp and made his Major League debut as a pinch runner during their Opening Day victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Lukes appeared in three games with the Blue Jays but didn’t make a plate appearance before he was sent down to Triple-A to make room on Toronto’s 26-man roster for Luplow.

Through six games with the Bisons, Lukes has gone 8-for-24 with five walks compared to one strikeout along with one home run and one stolen base.

Swapping the right-handed hitting Luplow for the left-handed hitting Lukes makes sense given the Blue Jays will face three right-handed starting pitchers (Christian Javier, Jose Urquidy, and Luis Garcia) during their upcoming series with the Houston Astros.
