Another Canadian prospect is off the shelf and into the professional market.

The New York Mets signed Canadian left-handed pitcher Keegan O’Hearn as a non-drafted free agent. O’Hearn, from Oshawa, Ontario reportedly signed a deal worth $150,000.

Before joining the Michigan Wolverines, O’Hearn played for the Ontario Terriers of the Canadian Premier Baseball League, as well as with Ontario Baseball’s Oshawa Legionnaires and Canada’s Junior National Team.

O’Hearn has spent his last two seasons at the University of Michigan. The lefty suffered and injury in 2023, meaning he redshirted his freshman year. O’Hearn only pitched two and two-thirds innings in 2025, then just seven and one-third innings in 2026.

The Oshawa product also served as a two-way player for the Wolverines., He batted a .281 with a .439 on-base percentage, and a .563 slugging percentage. Though that was also a limited sample size, earning just 41 plate appearances in 2025 and none in 2026.

O’Hearn also pitched with the State College Spikes of the MLB Draft League, posting a 11.91 ERA over his 11.1 innings of work. Walks were a major issue for O’Hearn, finishing his 10 outings with a 36.6 BB%. His walk rate of 32.6% between college and the MLB Draft League is quite concerning.

Standing at 6’5″, 225 lbs, the Mets are taking a gamble with his stuff, sitting in the upper 90s with his fastball that pairs with a changeup and slider.

It’s an affordable gamble for the Mets, as a bonus of $150,000 doesn’t count towards the Mets’ signing bonus pool. Despite the subpar numbers, there’s some potential in O’Hearn, and the Mets will hope to unlock it. He’ll join fellow Canadian pitcher Jonah Tong in the organization.
