<p>The Blue Jays brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the eighth and ninth innings but fell short by a score of 7-6 to the Boston Red Sox.</p>

<p>Cavan Biggio had runners on second and third in the bottom of the eighth and nearly laced a double down the first base line but the ball landed foul. He struck out on the next pitch and Justin Turner hit a home run in the top of the ninth to extend Boston&#8217;s lead to 7-5.</p>
<p>Kevin Kiermaier struck out to start the bottom of the ninth and then George Springer and Bo Bichette got on base with a single and a double. Brandon Belt struck out, bringing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the plate with two outs. He smacked a ball into right field that scored Springer and then Bichette ran through the stop sign and got thrown out at home.</p>
<p>It was an unfortunate end to a game with a sold-out Canada Day crowd begging for a big moment.</p>

<li>George Springer led the way for the Blue Jays by going 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the first inning and two singles later in the game. Bo Bichette and Matt Chapman both hit a double and a home run. The team went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base.</li>
