On Friday afternoon, the Blue Jays placed Danny Jansen on the 10-day Injured List, <a href="https://twitter.com/BlueJays/status/1662198436601511942">retroactive to May 25th.</a>

In his place, the Blue Jays have called up Tyler Heineman from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. This season in the minors, Heineman has slashed .260/.393/.400 in 62 plate appearances, with one home run and 10 RBIs.
This will be the 31-year-old’s second stint with the Blue Jays, as he spent part of the 2022 season with the Jays. In his 16 plate appearances, the catcher slashed .267/.267/.400 with two RBIs, before eventually being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It’s worth noting that Heineman was a solid defensive catcher in the 2022 season. His Catcher Defensive Adjustment, which measures blocking, framing, and throwing, was 5.3, ranked 17th. For context, Sean Murphy and Martín Maldonado had a 5.7 CDA, while Alejandro Kirk had a 10.5 CDA.
Heineman has also spent a few games in the big leagues this season, where he’s slashed .111/200/.111 in 10 plate appearances, before the Pirates traded him back to Toronto for Vinny Capra.
As for Jansen, he started the 2023 season off cold, slashing .207/.273/.413 with six homers in 132 plate appearances. However, in May, he slashed .231/.296/.446 with three homers in 71 plate appearances for a 104 wRC+. He also had several walk-offs to his name, including a three-run blast.
With Jansen going down, it will allow Alejandro Kirk to play the majority of the Blue Jays games, where he can hopefully get back to his offensive production similar to his 2022 season.
Hopefully, Danny Jansen won’t be missing too much time, and Heinemann can provide adequate defense.
