The Jays may get some reinforcements soon.

According to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, Danny Jansen ran the bases and felt good Wednesday afternoon.

Nicholson-Smith also reported that he could head to Triple-A soon and that a return to Toronto could happen within a week.
Jansen went down with a groin strain on May 25th. This season, he has slashed .207/.273/.413 with six homers in 132 plate appearances for an 86 wRC+. Regression was expected from his 2022 season when he slashed .260/.339/.516 with 15 homers in 248 plate appearances for a 140 wRC+, but Jansen still has plenty of time to get hot.
Since the injury, Alejandro Kirk has slashed .333/.351/.417 with a homer in 37 plate appearances. After a late arrival to spring training, it appears that Kirk is returning to the 2022 form that saw him slash .285/.372/.415 with 14 homers and a 129 wRC+ in 541 plate appearances.
Jansen’s replacement, Tyler Heineman, has filled in well. He’s only appeared in four games with the Jays, where he’s slashing .143/.333/.286 with a double in 9 plate appearances for an 86 wRC+.
It’s to be seen how playing time is split between the two catchers, but if both these catchers get hot, the Blue Jays could go on a serious run.
