Davis Schneider hit his second home run in as many days as the Blue Jays swept the Cardinals

There’s nothing better than a late-season sweep.
On Sunday, the Blue Jays played their third and final game against the St. Louis Cardinals, defeating the fellow bird team 3-2 to bring their season record to 72-78. This was also Toronto’s fifth series sweep of the season.
Davis Schenider has had a rough go of things since the start of June, but he broke a long home run slump on Saturday while also finishing the game with three hits. It seems like he’s figured something out, as he hit another home run on Sunday, his 12th of the season, as well as a single.
Toronto’s other run came thanks to Nathan Lukes’ second double of the game in the bottom of the eighth, driving in George Springer. This came in the bottom of the eighth in a tied game, putting the Blue jays up 3-2, the final score of the game.

Diving into the stats…

The Blue Jays had six hits in total this game. Davis Schenider had two – a home run and a single, while Nathan Lukes hit two doubles. The other two hits came from Leo Jiménez and George Springer, the latter hitting a pinch hit single and eventually scored by Lukes’ double. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also walked twice, Toronto’s only two walks.
Pitching was solid for the Jays in this game as well. Yariel Rodríguez gave up an earned run in 4.1 innings pitched to bring his season ERA to 4.29. Ryan Yarbrough also gave up an earned run in an inning and two thirds. Erik Swanson continued to pitch well, striking out a batter in two thirds of an inning. Génesis Cabrera pitched an inning with a walk, while Zach Pop was given the win as he retired an out.
Chad Green picked up his 17th save of the season, but made it close. He allowed two singles, but Jordan Walker popped up to end the game.
Up next, the Blue Jays finally play an American League team for the first time since September 1, as they’ll head to Texas to face the Rangers on Tuesday in a three-game series. The first game comes at 8:05 PM on Tuesday, with Toronto’s starter yet to be determined.
