Jameson Taillon’s 2026 season is over.
Speaking to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi and Hazel Mae on Tuesday before the Toronto Blue Jays’ 10-1 loss against the Detroit Tigers, the right-hander stated he is headed for a visit with Dr. Keith Meister next Tuesday as he looks for answers on his pitching elbow.
Taillon is hopeful that the visit will bring positive news as the 34-year-old has already undergone two Tommy John surgeries in his career.
Ever since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs on August 2 in exchange for cash considerations, injuries have reared their ugly head for Taillon. Taillon was removed from his second start with the club on August 10 after four innings due to right forearm tendinitis, an injury that ended up costing him nearly a month.
After one rehab start in Triple-A Buffalo, Taillon was activated on September 4 before the series opener against the Kansas City Royals. After two innings, Taillon was removed with right elbow discomfort, an ailment that ultimately put an end to his 2026 campaign.
Through three starts with the Blue Jays, Taillon posted a 3.60 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. The righty struck out eight batters across 10.0 innings pitched and limited opponents to a .231 average.
While Taillon was acquired in a trade, he was designated for assignment by the Cubs while in the final year of a four-year, $68-million contract he signed with them on December 19, 2022. Before being DFA’d, Taillon was 2-6 with a 5.92 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP across 15 starts.
Taillon is set to be a free agent this winter and teams will surely be awaiting the imaging results before inking the 10-year MLB veteran to a new contract. Taillon has a career 3.99 ERA across 242 big-league outings and could be an option for the Blue Jays this winter as they enter next season with questions in their rotation.
