Former Blue Jays right-handed reliever Brett de Geus is heading back to the waiver wire, as the Miami Marlins<a href="https://twitter.com/Marlins/status/1906404432486539542"> designated</a> the California product for assignment on Sunday. Right-hander Xzavion Curry was added to the roster in his place, while fellow right-hander Valente Bellozo was optioned to triple-A to make room for Curry on the roster.
A former 33rd round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers back in 2017, de Geus joined the Blue Jays after being DFA&#8217;d by the Marlins last summer, with Miami picking him up in early August after he was DFA&#8217;d by the Seattle Mariners. de Geus spent just under two weeks with the Jays, starting in triple-A before getting called up late in the campaign. He would end up posting a 15.43 ERA through two relief outings, allowing four earned runs off of three hits and two walks through 2 1/3 innings of work to finish out the season.
The Jays designated him for assignment this past January when the club signed Jeff Hoffman to a three-year deal, and they later traded him to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations.

de Geus would be DFA&#8217;d by the Pirates in mid-February when the club signed Andrew Heaney, and the Marlins would claim him shortly after. This spring with the Marlins, de Geus struggled through three outings with the Fish, allowing six hits and six earned runs through three outings. He was optioned to triple-A midway through March, and this new DFA opens up the roster spot for Curry.
This latest transaction is another in a long list for the right-hander, with de Geus spending the 2022 and 2023 seasons in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball before signing a deal with the Kansas City Royals in the summer of 2023. The Texas Rangers also selected him in the Rule 5 Draft back in December of 2020, making the Opening Day roster before being DFA&#8217;d in June later that season.
