Former Blue Jay Leo Jiménez designated for assignment by Miami Marlins

A former Toronto Blue Jay could soon be finding a new home. 
On Thursday, the Miami Marlins announced they designated Leo Jiménez for assignment after acquiring him from the Blue Jays in March.
Across 66 games with the Marlins this season, Jiménez batted .199 with two home runs and 14 RBIs. The 25-year-old reached base at a .303 clip and stole one base to this point in the season. Jiménez spent just under two weeks in May on the 7-day concussion injured list. 
Jiménez was acquired for Dub Gleed and $250k worth of international bonus pool space. Gleed has put together a big year in the Blue Jays’ system, having batted .278 with 19 home runs and 60 RBIs while turning in an on-base percentage of .360 across High-A and Double-A. 
Over parts of three seasons between both the Blue Jays and Marlins, Jiménez is a lifetime .203 hitter across 374 career at-bats. The infielder has hit seven home runs and driven in 34 RBIs during that time. 
In 2022, Jiménez was ranked as the Blue Jays’ No. 5 prospect, but he failed to live up to expectations and was never given a decent run as a starter in Toronto. The 2024 campaign was Jiménez’s best season to date, as he appeared in 63 games with the Blue Jays and slugged four home runs and 19 RBIs. 
Jiménez was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays right before the beginning of the 2026 season, as he was out of options remaining and the club opted for Davis Schneider to begin the season on the 26-man roster. 
If Jiménez goes unclaimed, he will be sent to their Triple-A club, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, due to not having a previous outright and not holding three years of big-league service time.
