Former Blue Jays pitcher Brian Wolfe passes away at age 45

The Toronto Blue Jays organization is mourning the loss of Brian Wolfe.
On Wednesday night, it was announced that the former Blue Jays pitcher passed away at age 45.
Originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round of the 1999 MLB Draft, Wolfe was released on May 13, 2005, before latching on with the Milwaukee Brewers 10 days later. After spending the remainder of the 2005 season in the Brewers organization, Wolfe was traded to the Blue Jays in exchange for Corey Koskie on January 6, 2006.
After spending the entire 2006 season split between Advanced-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire, Wolfe was rewarded with his big-league debut on May 30, 2007, against the New York Yankees.
Wolfe ended up getting into 38 games while working out of the Blue Jays bullpen that season and went 3-1 with a 2.98 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. The right-hander struck out 22 batters across 45.1 innings and held opponents to a .224 average. Wolfe picked up his first career win on June 22, during a 9-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
The Blue Jays finished with 83 wins that season and Wolfe was a part of a strong bullpen that consisted of Scott Downs, Casey Janssen and Jeremy Accardo, all of whom finished the season with ERAs under 3.00.
Returning for the 2008 season, Wolfe pitched in 20 games and went 0-2 with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. Wolfe struck out 14 batters across 22 innings pitched and was once again difficult to hit, highlighted by holding opponents to a .234 average.
Wolfe ended up getting into 14 games with the Blue Jays during the 2009 season before he was granted his release in December. The Blue Jays were Wolfe’s lone MLB franchise, and finished his tenure by appearing in 72 games and posted a 5-5 record, a 3.81 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP across 82.2 innings pitched.
